Bangladesh wins gold at 24th International Robot Olympiad

Bangladesh has won a total of 13 awards, including one gold medal, two silver medals, two bronze medals, and eight technical medals at the 24th International Robot Olympiad (IRO).

The medals were handed over to the winners on Monday.

The 24th International Robot Olympiad was held from January 12 to 15 in Phuket, Thailand.

A total of 1,500 participants from around the world participated in IRO this year.

Team Bangladesh consisted of 14 members, and they are students from different schools and colleges in the country. 

Team Aficionados consisting of Maisha Sobhan, Samia Mehnaz, and Marzia Afifa Prithibi won the gold medal from the challenge group in the “Robot in Movie” category.

In the junior group, Robosparkers team members Jaima Jahin Wara, Mahrooz Mohammad and Shabnam Khan bagged silver medals.

Team Zeroth members Nusaiba Tazreen Tanisha, Sadia Anjum and BM Hamim won silver medals in the challenge group in the “Creative Category.”

Besides, team Zeroth and team Robo Tigers Nasheetat Zainah Rahman and Kazi Mostahid won bronze medals in “Robot in Movie” challenge group as well.

Those who received technical medals in Creative Category are Nasheetat Zainah Rahman, Kazi Mostahid, and Abrar Shahid of team Robo Tigers in the challenge group; Jaima Jahin Wara, Mahrooz Mohammad Ayman and Shabnam Khan of Robosparkers team in junior group and others. 

In 2018, Bangladesh participated for the first time in the International Robot Olympiad (IRO) and won one gold and one technical award. 

In 2019, Bangladeshi Robot Olympiad teams won one gold, two silver, and six bronze medals with one technical award in the 21st International Robot Olympiad (IRO).

In 2021, Bangladesh won two gold, two silver, five bronze medals, and six technical awards in the 22nd IRO held in Daegu, South Korea.
