Law being made for dope tests of university students: Home Minister

Law being made for dope tests of university students: Home Minister

A law is being made (amendment) for dope test of students during admission to universities, said home minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Sunday.

There will be provision in the law that medical tests, including dope tests, would be conducted during the admission, he added.

The minister was talking to newspersons at his secretariat office in the morning. The news conference was organised marking the ‘International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking’.

The home minister said the dope test has already been started in the police force. Besides, the people to be appointed as government employees also will undergo dope tests. We sent a proposal to the prime minister seeking her directives to include dope test along with the other tests the civil surgeon conducts. Now that is being done as well, he added.

Asaduzzaman Khan also said infrastructure is necessary for conducting the tests widely. This has also been undertaken.

While speaking about controlling the influx of drugs, the home minister said 20,592 cases were filed against 21,992 people after seizing a huge amount of yaba, heroin, hashish, phensedyl and other drugs in 2021.

Officials of home ministry and narcotics control department also were present in the news conference.
