The High Court suspended the order of a Tk2,00,000 fine imposed by the Directorate of National Consumers Right Protection (DNCRP) on Shohoz.com based on the complaint of Dhaka University (DU) student Mohiuddin Rony.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Iqbal Kabir and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed the order on Sunday regarding the preliminary hearing of the writ.
Barrister Tanjib ul Alam appeared for the writ in the court.
Earlier on June 13, Mohiuddin Rony tried to buy a Dhaka-Rajshahi ticket on the Bangladesh Railway website to travel to Rajshahi. He complained that he did not get the ticket despite the fees being deducted.
Later, Rony, who has been protesting mismanagement and corruption in Bangladesh Railway, filed a complaint against Shohoz after falling victim to its dodgy e-ticketing system.
On July 20, DNCRP called a hearing over the complaint and the authority fined Shohoz Tk2 lakh over its negligence in service to customers.
Later on July 26, a writ was filed in the High Court by Shohoz Ltd challenging the validity of this decision.
