Today, Md Alamgir, the election commissioner, announced that the commission will take action against anyone who violates the electoral code of conduct.

Conflicts between supporters of competing candidates have led to the filing of complaints with local police stations in various parts of the nation. In response to a journalist's inquiry at his office at Nirbachan Bhaban in the city, he stated, "Taking the breaking of the polls code into cognizance," but that no decision had been made about the nomination at this time.

The commissioner added that local police and administrations, Returning Officers (ROs), and Executive and Judicial Magistrates remain vigilant in their efforts to prevent violations of the electoral code of conduct.

"We are not issuing show-cause notice directly from the Election Commission (EC) except a few incidents," Alamgir said, adding that ROs and assistant ROs are giving show-cause notices while executive and judicial judges are conducting trials for elections code violations.

While acknowledging that the EC is receiving reports of replies to show-cause letters, he went on to say that in certain instances, the accused are being penalized and in others, they are being brought before the court after charges have been filed against them.

The commissioner stated that the January 7 polls cannot be described as uncompetitive because candidates are competing in every seat. However, he did mention that there have been instances of candidates violating the electoral code of conduct.

"The EC, however, is giving attention to even small violations of poll code like pasting posters on wall," said the commissioner.
