Dengue infection: deaths now number 867, with 21 more reported in 24 hrs

In the past 24 hours, twenty-one more deaths from dengue have been reported in Bangladesh, bringing the total number of fatalities from the mosquito-borne disease to 867 so far this year.

According to the DGHS, an additional 3,015 patients were hospitalised with viral fever during the period.

Of the new patients, 867 were admitted to hospitals in Dhaka and the rest outside the capital--indicating a worsening situation across the country, DGHS said.

In hospitals across the nation, a total of 10,263 dengue patients, including 3,819 in the nation's capital, are currently receiving treatment.

This year, the DGHS has recorded 176,810 cases of dengue and 165,680 recoveries.

In the first two weeks of September, 174 deaths have been attributed to the Aedes mosquito-borne Dengue virus. During the same span, 33,336 cases were reported.
