Awami League nominated candidate Mohammad Arafat wins Dhaka-17 by-elections

Mohammad A Arafat, who was backed by the ruling Awami League, won the by-election for the Dhaka-17 constituency.
Arafat received 28,816 votes, while "Hero Alom," also known as Ashraful Hossen Alom, received only 5,609 votes.
The Dhaka-17 by-election's returning officer, Senior District Election Officer Md Munir Hussain Khan, made an unofficial announcement of the results late at night.
The by-elections for Dhaka-17 saw a total of 37,420 voters cast their ballots.
The returning officer reported an 11.51% voter turnout in the Dhaka-17 by-elections.
In the Dhaka-17 by-election, voting started at 8 am and went nonstop until 4 pm.
Since the passing of well-known actor and freedom fighter Akbar Hossain Pathan Farooque MP on May 14 of this year, the seat representing Gulshan, Banani, Baridhara, and a portion of Dhaka Cantonment has been vacant.
The Election Commission announced the by-election schedule for Dhaka-17 on June 1 after the passing of incumbent Awami League MP Akbar Hossain Pathan alias Farooque left the seat vacant.
