Kylian Mbappe told Paris Saint-Germain on Monday that he would not extend his contract until 2025, raising the possibility that he will leave the club this summer like Lionel Messi.

France's 24-year-old striker's contract expires next season with the option of a year.

The French champions could sell him this summer to avoid losing him for nothing in a year.

Mbappe's letter to the club, reported by L'Equipe, is another blow to PSG after Messi's departure to Inter Miami.

Mbappe had until July 31, 2023, to decide.

Mbappe's move comes just over a year after he spurned Real Madrid by signing a surprise contract extension at the Parc des Princes.

Real again led his suitors.

Mbappe's entourage didn't respond late Monday night.

PSG would suffer if the striker left for free in 2024.

The club would lose millions of euros in transfer fees as well as a player.

Neymar, under contract until 2025, is also uncertain ahead of a turbulent summer in Paris.

Mbappe joined PSG on a season-long loan from Monaco in August 2017 that became a permanent deal worth 180 million euros ($194 million).

He helped France win the 2018 World Cup as a teenager and is now a top forward.

Mbappe's hat-trick in France's 2022 World Cup final loss to Messi's Argentina helped Paris Saint-Germain win a record 11th French title.

Last month, Mbappe hinted at a 2024 departure.

I'll play at PSG next year. "I still have a year of contract so I will honour my contract," he said when asked about his future at an awards ceremony where he was named Ligue 1 player of the season for the fourth time.

The striker appeared relaxed on Monday at Clairefontaine, where France are preparing for their next Euro qualifiers.

He signed dozens of autographs for spectators during afternoon training, laughing with coach Didier Deschamps and fellow attacker Antoine Griezmann.

Despite winning the French title, PSG's Qatari owners are frustrated by Mbappe's decision to join.

The club is looking to replace Christophe Galtier after another Champions League failure.

After Bayern Munich eliminated PSG from the Champions League and French Cup in the last 16, the season was a disappointment.

Since signing from Barcelona for a world-record 222 million euros in 2017, PSG has worried about Neymar's fitness.

He has 118 goals in 173 games for PSG but has missed over 100 games due to injury or suspension.
