Sharif Jamil was elected to the Waterkeeper Alliance's board of directors

For the fourth time, Sharif Jamil, general secretary of Bangladesh Poribesh Andolon (BAPA), was chosen without opposition to serve on the council board of the Waterkeeper Alliance, a global network of environmental organizations based in the US.

The South Asian region will be represented by Sharif Jamil, who is also the coordinator of Waterkeepers Bangladesh and Buriganga Riverkeeper, in the body that makes policy for the global organization founded by Robert F. Kennedy Jr.

Virtually, the election took place on June 1. For the following three years, Sharif Jamil will serve as the Asia representative. For more than 20 years, the Waterkeeper Alliance has worked to safeguard the environment in 47 different nations.

In addition to Sharif Jamil, the Waterkeeper Alliance in Bangladesh also includes Tofazzal Sohel from the Khowai River, Abdul Karim Chowdhury Kim from the Surma River, Nur Alam Sheikh from the Pashur River, and Ibnul Sayed Rana from the Old Brahmaputra River.
