During his final match for Paris Saint-Germain, a portion of the home crowd jeered Lionel Messi as the Ligue 1 champions fell to Clermont 3-2 on Saturday.

Immediately prior to Saturday's game, PSG released an official statement confirming Messi's anticipated departure from the French powerhouse after two seasons.

Nasser al-Khelaifi, the president of Paris Saint-Germain, said, "His contribution to Paris Saint-Germain and Ligue 1 cannot be underestimated. We wish Leo and his family the best for the future."

However, some spectators heckled Messi's name as the teams were introduced at Parc des Princes, and the Argentinian World Cup winner was once more whistled irregularly throughout the game.

After PSG won a record 11th French championship last weekend, there wasn't much riding on the actual game, and Christophe Galtier's team managed to blow a two-goal lead.

In the 16th minute, Sergio Ramos, whose own departure from PSG was announced on Friday, scored the game's first goal to cap off his final outing.

- Tribute to injured Rico - Mbappe then scored a penalty to make it 2-0 with his 29th league goal this season, which he marked by holding up goalkeeper Sergio Rico's number 16 jersey. He was attempting to finish the season as Ligue 1's leading scorer for a fifth consecutive season.

PSG's backup goalkeeper Rico, a Spaniard, was hurt in a horseback riding accident over the weekend and is currently being treated in a hospital in Seville.

The tribute to Sergio, according to Mbappe, was the most crucial element.

"There are more significant things than football, and we were already champions on the field. Even if we had lost 22-0, nothing would have changed for us.

"We needed to honor Sergio. I believe that we are all impacted by this very serious situation. We worried about that all week, so we made an effort to honor him in the best way we could.

In the final standings, Mbappe had two more goals than Lyon's Alexandre Lacazette.

Johan Gastien scored for Clermont after capitalizing on a slip-up by Marco Verratti, and Grejohn Kyei missed a penalty for them later.

Mehdi Zeffane scored from close range for the visitors in first-half stoppage time after Gianluigi Donnarumma dropped the ball.

Using his knee to turn in a cross, Kyei scored the game-winning goal for Clermont in the second half.

With a notable victory, Clermont ends the year in eighth place.

After the game, PSG accepted the championship trophy but finished the regular season with seven league losses, all of which occurred in 2023.
