After losing the FA Cup final, Man Utd is "broken," according to Ten Hag.

After losing to longtime rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final, Erik ten Hag said on Saturday that his Manchester United team is "broken" and "disappointed" but he is proud of his team nonetheless.

Ilkay Gundogan, the captain of City, scored the FA Cup final's quickest goal with just 12 seconds remaining at Wembley.

From the penalty spot, Bruno Fernandes pulled the score even, but Gundogan scored again early in the second half to make it 2-1.

Ten Hag told the BBC, "We are broken, disappointed obviously, but I said I am proud of my team.

Although we gave up two soft goals, we still managed to stay in the game. Great spirit and excellent organization were present.

"This team demonstrated resilience, character, and personality," he continued. We are aware that we still have a ways to go, but this will help. We put ourselves to the test, and while we failed, we learned a lot that we can apply to the following season.

Despite the loss, United captain Fernandes claimed that the team had made "big steps for next season".

In Ten Hag's first season in charge, the Red Devils ended their six-year trophy drought in February by defeating Newcastle in the League Cup final and finished third in the Premier League.

However, they came in second to Premier League champions City in the bright London sunshine as they continued their quest for a treble.

Everyone is depressed, and things are very challenging, said Fernandes. It wasn't possible to end the season the way we had hoped.

"For the upcoming season, we've taken big steps. Overall, the season wasn't a success, but it was still a good one. We must return the following year and strive to take home bigger awards.

The midfielder from Portugal claimed that United's supporters deserved more.

He said, "Our fans have been fantastic all season, and they deserved a different outcome today.

"We regret that we were unable to bring the fans the happiness they so richly deserve.

"We appreciate everything they've done for us this season. I swear, we'll return and try again the following year.
