It's time for the veterans to take the lead.

Bangladesh will look to wrap up the series against the hosts in Chelmsford today, after a brilliant three-wicket win in the second ODI against Ireland.

The second game had a lot of positives, with Najmul Hossain Shanto scoring his first century and young Towhid Hridoy making a big statement early in his career with another crucial half-century.

Mushfiqur Rahim, the experienced finisher, continued to deliver in his new role as he came out to bat at No. 6, showing composure and guiding Bangladesh to their second highest successful chase of 321 runs on Friday.

While younger cricketers have begun to step up, there are still concerns, most notably skipper Tamim Iqbal's lack of form.

The experienced left-hander failed to make an impression in the first two ODIs, scoring 14 and seven runs respectively. The 34-year-old, who has failed to score even 50 runs in his last seven innings, is still looking for his first ODI century since a century against Zimbabwe in 2021.

Tamim needs to get back in the game as soon as possible, according to prominent coach Nazmul Abedeen Fahim. "Tamim needs to get into shape as soon as possible." It will not only increase the team's score, but it will also allow him to lead with more vigour. That is desperately needed by the team."

Shakib Al Hasan, another experienced campaigner, was also guilty of throwing away his wickets in the two ODIs despite getting starts.

Although the ongoing Ireland series is not part of the preparations for the upcoming ICC One-Day International World Cup in India later this year, Fahim believes the ace all-rounder is likely waiting for a bigger stage to shine.

"Shakib is probably saving himself for bigger occasions." He's attractive, but he's wasting it. He must understand that batting at number four means forming partnerships. He had a good chance today to play second to Shanto and gain confidence. However, he is unlikely to play second fiddle to anyone, but the good news is that his batting form is good, and we could see a big score any day now,'' he said.
