Consumer inflation in India likely fell to an 18-month low in April as food and fuel price increases moderated, keeping it below the Reserve Bank of India's upper tolerance limit for the second month in a row, according to a Reuters poll of economists.

Food inflation, which accounts for nearly half of total consumer price inflation, was expected to have fallen again in April as cereal and edible oil price increases eased.

According to the median view of 53 economists polled by Reuters on May 8-9, inflation, as measured by the annual change in the consumer price index (CPI), was expected to fall to 4.80 percent in April from 5.66 percent in March.

Predictions ranged from 4.40 percent to 5.80 percent, with respondents expecting inflation to remain below the RBI's upper tolerance limit of 6.00 percent for the second month in a row.
