Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Bangladesh Charles Whiteley said they don't have any intention to mediate or interfere in Bangladesh's internal politics.

"We are not here to mediate or interfere (Bangladesh) in internal politics," he said at a press briefing marking the European Day at a city hotel this afternoon.

Whiteley, however, said they are here to meet and listen all political parties to understand the situation.

The envoy said the EU wants to see "free and fair" elections in Bangladesh without any violence as all Bangladeshis want to see the same.

The ambassador made the remarks while responding to a question on next national election in Bangladesh.

Ambassador from other EU countries also joined briefing.

Whitely said the EU will send an exploratory election monitoring mission in July.

The EU has already received a written invitation from the Bangladesh Election Commission.

The higher command of European Commission will take decision whether they will send EU election observers mission during the upcoming Bangladesh general polls.
