The Weekend on his final album: "I'm trying to shed that skin and be reborn."

Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weekend, recently stated in an interview with W Magazine that he wishes to change his stage name. "The album I'm working on now is probably my last hurrah as The Weekend," the four-time Grammy winner said. This is something I need to do. "I've said everything I can say as The Weekend."

 

"I'm going through a cathartic path right now," he added. It's getting to the point and time where I'm ready to say goodbye to The Weekend. I'll continue to make music, perhaps as Abel, perhaps as The Weekend. But I still want to assassinate The Weeknd. And I intend to do so. Eventually. I'm definitely attempting to shed that skin and rebirth."

His next project is an HBO series called "The Idol," in which he will co-star with Lily Rose Depp. Abel, along with Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim, is also a co-creator. The singer made his acting debut as himself in "Uncut Gems" in 2019. He is also said to be in a mystery project with Jenna Ortega.
