In a 1-0 Premier League victory over Brentford over the weekend, Mohamed Salah scored his 100th goal at Anfield and made history by becoming the first Liverpool player to find the back of the net in nine straight home games.

The victory kept the Reds' hopes of finishing in the top four and qualifying for the Champions League for the following season alive, along with Manchester United's defeat at West Ham.

Algerian Said Benrahma scored the game's lone goal at West Ham thanks to a mistake by goalkeeper David De Gea.

African athletes making headlines in the top European leagues are highlighted here by AFP Sport:

ENGLAND

SALAH, MOHAMED (Liverpool)

Mohamed Salah

The Egyptian, who has twice been named African Footballer of the Year, slammed home Virgil van Dijk's header at the second attempt to score his 30th goal of the season across all competitions.

City of Manchester's RIYAD MAHREZ

Riyad Mahrez - Man City's shining light

Ilkay Gundogan scored both of City's goals, both of which were assisted by Mahrez, as the defending champions defeated Leeds 2-1 to move one step closer to defending their title. In order for Gundogan to score from the edge of the box, the Algerian made two inside cuts off the right wing and then laid perfectly weighted passes into his path.

BENRAHMA, SAID (West Ham)

West Ham United - Benrahma

West Ham defeated Manchester United 1-0, and Benrahma's goal all but ensured the Hammers' continuation in the top division. However, the Algerian's 10th goal of the campaign was made possible by De Gea, who somehow allowed an errant long shot to slip through his grasp.

ITALY

NAPOLI, VICTOR OSIMHEN

Victor Osimhen

The Nigerian international scored from the spot to give Napoli a 1-0 victory over Fiorentina in their first home game after winning the Italian championship for the first time in 33 years, capping the best season of his career. It was his 23rd goal in Serie A this season. Osimhen, who had earlier in the week given his partying supporters the title-winning goal at Udinese, has now surpassed Liberian legend George Weah to become the highest-scoring African player in Serie A history.

GERMANY

Borussia Dortmund's SEBASTIEN HALLER

Sebastien Haller scores for Dortmund

In a 6-0 demolition of Wolfsburg, the Ivory Coast international scored Borussia Dortmund's second goal. On the 28th minute, Haller converted a low cross from Karim Adeyemi, giving Dortmund a crucial victory that allowed them to maintain their title hopes and remain within one point of Bayern Munich. Haller, who missed the first half of the season after learning that he had testicular cancer, has five goals since making his comeback in February.

Hoffenheim's ILHAS BEBOU

The Togo striker's tap-in goal helped his team defeat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 and move significantly closer to safety in the Bundesliga relegation battle. After Hoffenheim came out fighting with an outstanding first half, Bebou capitalized on an Angelino cross to make it 3-0 and make it five goals for the season.

FRANCE

Lens: SEKO FOFANA

In a crucial Ligue 1 match against Marseille, the Ivory Coast midfielder gave Lens the lead before Lois Openda of Belgium added a second for the team from northern France. The 2-1 victory moved Lens into second place behind Paris Saint-Germain, two points ahead of their defeated southern rivals, even though Dimitri Payet scored a late consolation goal for Marseille.
