Rafael Leao, a striker for AC Milan, scored twice to help his team defeat league-leading Napoli 4-0 on the road on Sunday. Stefano Pioli's team moved up to third place in the standings as a result.

Milan has 51 points, one more than Inter Milan in fourth place and four more than Lazio in second place. Napoli leads the pack by 20 points.

"This is just the beginning. We need to maintain this mentality for the remaining nine Serie A games because we've lost chances in the past and we can't do it again. This is a good victory, but it only covers this one game," Pioli told DAZN.

The match was the first of three clashes between the clubs. Later this month, they will also play against each other in the Champions League quarter-finals.

"Whatever the result was going to be this evening, it would not affect the Champions League, as that will be a different experience, atmosphere and everything. It will allow us to study this match and see where we did well or could’ve done better," Pioli added.

After 17 minutes, the visitors took the lead when Leao took a touch and skillfully chipped the ball over Alex Meret in goal for Napoli.

Without injured Serie A top scorer Victor Osimhen, Napoli, who has finished second four times since 2013, is attempting to win the league for the first time since 1989–1990.

Eight minutes later, Diaz doubled the advantage when he received a cross inside the box, threw a dummy that left Napoli defender Mario Rui helpless, and the ball deflected into the goal.

Leao ran into the box, twisted and turned past three Napoli defenders, and lashed his shot into the goal to effectively end the game for Milan 14 minutes into the second half.

After 67 minutes, Alexis Saelemaekers added a fourth goal with a solo effort in which he outran four defenders and put the ball between Meret's legs.
It was the first time in more than 22 years that Napoli have lost a Serie A match at home by four or more goals.
