Tuesday's third game of their Twenty20 series saw Bangladesh sweep defending champion England by a margin of 16 runs. Najmul Hossain Shanto scored a 47-run unbeaten run and opener Liton Das hit a career-high 73 to help Bangladesh score 158-2 on a slow Mirpur pitch.

Up until their dismissals in back-to-back deliveries, Dawid Malan and captain Jos Buttler had England on track to avoid being swept. The score for England was 142–6.

Bangladesh defeated a significant opponent in a T20 sweep for the first time, while England was defeated for just the third time overall, joining Australia and South Africa in 2016.

Shakib Al Hasan, captain of Bangladesh, said, "We talked about showing character ahead of the series and that's what we showed.

"Despite being placed in a challenging situation, we prevailed. That will give us confidence as we put together a team for the 2024 T20 World Cup."

On his debut, left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam struck with his third ball, dismissing opener Phil Salt for a duck. Malan then put on a 95-run stand with Buttler, who looked to be in top form with 40 off 31, including four fours and a six, and hit a 47-ball 53 with six fours and two sixes. Malan, however, edged behind to give pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman his 100th T20 wicket, and Mehidy Hasan directly hit Buttler from point to bring him out of the game. From there, England lost ground while attempting to keep up the requested run rate.

"Our fielding was excellent. Two wickets in two balls completely altered the course of the match "said Shakib.

Mathew Mott, England's coach, concurred.

The run out, which Mott described as "an amazing piece of fielding," was the turning point.

"With Jos positioned at the back end there, ready to attack, you would be backing yourself. The game was truly changed by it."

"In that over, we dropped two wickets. I believed we had a strong enough platform to knock one of those two off balance if they managed to get through."

Taskin Ahmed, a fast bowler, won the game with a 2-26 performance and was named man of the match. Hasan Mahmud allowed just two boundaries when England needed an improbable 27 off the final over.

At the very end, England bowled exceptionally well, allowing Bangladesh just 27 runs in five overs and one four. However, Bangladesh took advantage of missed opportunities to raise a respectable total.

Opening batsman Liton Das, who scored just 26 runs in the previous five games he played against England, found his form with a 57-ball 73 that included 10 fours and a six. Liton reached his ninth fifty off of 41 balls before Ben Duckett dropped him for 51. Rehan Ahmed dropped Rony Talukdar off Jofra Archer, but the damage was minimal.

Before Talukdar gave legspinner Adil Rashid a return catch, Liton and Talukdar shared a 55-run opening stand. Liton and Najmul Hossain Shanto then put on an 84-run second-wicket stand.

A slower ball from Chris Jordan that carried to Salt eventually tricked Liton. Shanto scored an unblemished 47 off 36 to end the innings.

"We were ecstatic about our one-day (series) victory (2-1). That took a lot of work "said Mott.

The way we ended today will leave us with a bitter taste, but it should also serve as a wake-up call for us about where we need to improve.
