Bayern moves closer to the round of eight as Coman trouble PSG once more.

Bayern Munich defeated Paris St. Germain 1-0 in the first leg of their Champions League round of 16 match on Tuesday at the Parc des Princes thanks to a goal from Kingsley Coman.

Coman, who was raised at PSG and was born in Paris, scored the only goal as Bayern defeated France in the 2020 Champions League final, and he did so once more as the German champions advanced to the quarterfinals.

Although PSG finished the game with Kylian Mbappe, Neymar, and Lionel Messi all on the field, they were ultimately defeated and failed to mount a comeback. PSG has now dropped five games in all competitions in 2023.

On March 8 in Munich, Christophe Galtier's team will now likely be eliminated for the second time in a row, despite the fact that Mbappe's explosive performance as a substitute in the second half gave them hope.

MBAPPE RETURNS FROM DAMAGE

When Mbappe took Carlos Soler's place, the crowd erupted in excitement as they hoped the France forward would save PSG upon his return from a two-week injury layoff.

Before that, Benjamin Pavard's header in the 64th minute was parried by Gianluigi Donnarumma, who had to stretch all the way. Eric Choupo-Moting had previously come close to adding a second goal for Bayern on two occasions.
Before Yann Sommer denied Mbappe from close range in the 74th minute and had a goal disallowed for offside, Mbappe had little to offer.

Seven minutes from the end, he scored once more, but the equalizer was once more disallowed due to an offside position.

Warren Zaire-Emery, 16, started a Champions League knockout game on the right wing of a 4-4-2 formation with Mbappe initially on the bench but Messi and Marco Verratti returning to the lineup after injuries. This made him the youngest player to do so.

In a tense but unproductive first half, PSG took the first blows but threatened on the break while waiting for some Neymar or Messi magic.

The only clear opportunity for Bayern came in the 43rd minute when Donnarumma stopped Joshua Kimmich's 20-meter attempt. Bayern were by no means impressive at all.

Coman latches onto an Alphonso Davies cross eight minutes into the second half to give Bayern a goal and a well-earned lead.

They managed to hold on and hand PSG their first loss in the competition this year, despite losing Pavard to a red card in stoppage time.
