Sylhet Strikers continued their unbeaten run in the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League 2023 after they beat Dhaka Dominators by 62 runs during their fourth match and also consolidated their top position after the end of the Dhaka phase at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Tuesday.

Towhid Hridoy was the chief architect of Sylhet’s victory yet again as he struck a blazing 84 off 56 balls – his third successive fifty in the ongoing edition – while Najmul Hossain Shanto made 57 off 39 balls as Sylhet posted the highest total in this current edition, 201-8, in their 20 overs after being sent into bat first.

Al-Amin Hossain claimed three wickets while Taskin Ahmed finished with two wickets.

In reply, Dhaka were reduced to 30-3 in the sixth over before skipper Nasir Hossain (44) and Mohammad Mithun (42) put up a 77-run stand for the fourth wicket to bring their back in the match.

However, after the dismissal of Mithun, Dhaka failed to bat like the same way as they lost their remaining wickets for just 32 runs to get bowled out for 139 runs in 19.3 overs to suffer their first defeat in the tournament.

Muktar Ali didn’t come to bat for Dhaka as he earlier sustained an injury while taking a catch during the Sylhet innings. Imad Wasim, Mashrafe bin Mortaza and Mohammad Amir took two wickets each for Sylhet.

Earlier, Dhaka won their opening match against Khulna Tigers by six wickets.

Meanwhile, Sylhet registered victories over Chattogram Challengers, Fortune Barishal and Comilla Victorians respectively and they now take a six-point lead over the second-placed Rangpur Riders.

Barishal, Dhaka and Chattogram also finish the Dhaka phase with two points while Khulna and Comilla are yet to open their account.

Sylhet, meanwhile, suffered a blow in the match as their in-form batter Hridoy picked up a finger injury while fielding against Dhaka. The incident happened during the second ball of the 12th over during Dhaka’s chase.

“He has been taken out to a doctor for treatment and might require stitches,” Sylhet franchise informed in a statement.
