PM Hasina to be the 1st passenger of Metro Rail, Mariam Afiza operator

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is going to inaugurate the first phase of Metro Rail – running from Uttara to Agargaon--at 11am on Wednesday.

She will be the first passenger of the Metro Rail and Mariam Afiza the first metro train operator.

Dignitaries have already reached the venue to join the inaugural programme of the metro rail.
 

It will take 20 minutes to travel the 11.73km distance from Uttara to Agargaon as the government is starting the operation on a limited scale. But soon it will shorten to 16-17 minutes.

After the full opening, expected in December 2023, people will travel from Uttara to Motijheel in 40 minutes. The entire 21.16km long route from Uttara to Kamalapur will cost Tk 334.71 billion, also funded by Japan.
