9th-grader dies after scarf gets stuck with auto’s wheels in Mymensingh

A ninth-grade girl met a tragic end after her  scarf got stuck with the wheels of a battery-run autorickshaw in Gafargaon upazila of the district on Tuesday evening.

The deceased—Nishitha Aktar, 14, was daughter of Nayon Miah of Birunia village in Bhaluka upazila of the same district and also a class nine student of Kandi High School in her locality.

Relatives and police said the victim along with her maternal aunt was going to the house of maternal grandfather in Shilasi village from Mahirkharua village in the Gafargaon upazila.

Her neck’s scarf got stuck with the wheels of the battery-run autorickshaw on Asian Highway Road in Dhamail area, leaving her critically injured, they said.

She was rushed to Gafargaon Upazila Health Complex where physicians declared her dead.

Dr Nasrin Sultana, a physician of the hospital, said the girl succumbed to her injuries before arrival at the hospital.

Faruk Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Gafargaon police station, confirmed the death news.
