Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh called on Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury

On Sunday, Pranay Kumar Verma, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, met with Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, the speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad.
They talked on advancing trade, energy cooperation, combating climate change, and empowering women during their meeting at the Speaker's office at the Parliament Complex in Dhaka, the country's capital.
Shirin Sharmin said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi laid foundation stone of bilateral relations.
Recalling Indian assistance during the liberation war of Bangladesh, she said the freedom fighters received training in the neighbouring country while many common people took shelter.
However, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken country’s relations with India to new heights, she said, adding that agreements on water sharing, land boundary and many other issues took place during Awami League rule.
Speaker requested India to assist Bangladesh in tackling energy crisis and repatriating Rohingya displaced people.
High Commissioner Pranay Kumar Verma hailed the unprecedented socioeconomic development of Bangladesh wrought under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
The both countries will be able to surmount the impediments and tackle global challenges by concerted efforts, he opined.
High officials of the parliament complex were also present.
