A sexagenarian who went to Saudi Arabia to perform Hajj has died.

Md Abdul Gofur Mia, 61, who hailed from Tangail, died in Makka on Tuesday. His passport number is BY0062202.

So far seven pilgrims from Bangladesh have died in Saudi Arabia this year. Five of them were men and two were women.

A total of 44,233 Bangladeshis have reached the holy city for the annual pilgrimage, as of 2am on Wednesday.

The first Hajj flight of the country left Dhaka on June 5.

Hajj is open to those who are fully vaccinated against Covid-19 and are under the age of 65.

Last year only 58,745 pilgrims performed Hajj from across the world because of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Before the pandemic some 2.5 million people used to travel to Saudi Arabia every year for Hajj.
