Meher Afroze Chumki and Shabnam Jahan Shila have been elected president and general secretary respectively of Bangladesh Mohila Awami League, an associate body of ruling Awami League.
Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of new leaders at the Sixth National Council of Bangladesh Mohila Awami League held at historic Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on Saturday afternoon.
Earlier, Meher Afroze Chumki was the Women Affairs secretary of Awami League. On Saturday, Jahan Ara's name was announced as the Women Affairs secretary of Awami League.
Besides, Simin Hossain Rimi MP was made presidium member of the Awami League.
Menwhile, Shaheda Tareque Dipti was made president of the Dhaka City North of Mohila Awami League, while Hasina Bari Chowdhury general secretary.
Sabera Begum was made president of the Dhaka City South of Mohila Awami League, while Parul Akter general secretary.
Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina was present at the council as the chief guest.
Following the first session, Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader announced the names of new president and general secretary of Mohila Awami League.
Earlier, the fifth council of the organisation was held on March 4, 2017 where Shafia Khatun was elected president and Mahmuda Begum Krik general secretary. The three-year's committee held its post for almost five years.
In the Sixth Council this year, Shafia Khatun also tried to stay in her own post, while Mahmuda Begum Krik tried her best to secure the president post. Apart from these two, more than a dozen women leaders were the aspirants of president post.
On the other hand, there were minimum 20 aspirants for the post of general secretary. However, ending all the speculations, Chumki and Shila emerged as the president and general secretary of the Mohila Awami League.
According to the constitution of the organisation, the conference is scheduled to be held after every three consecutive years. However, the conference was held this year after long five years.
