CTTC arrests one over escape of 2 militants from court

The Counter-Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) Unit today arrested one accused in connection with snatching of two death row convict militants from the court premises.

The accused was identified as Mehedi Hasan Ami alias Rafi, 24.

Talking to BSS, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of DMP's media wing Md Faruque Hossain said, the CTTC unit arrested Mehedi Hasan.

Earlier, chief of CTTC Md Asaduzzaman said that the man who led the group in snatching two death row convicts and members of banned militant outfit Ansar al-Islam from Dhaka court premises was identified.

"We got the name of the man and some of his associates. But will not disclose it for the sake of investigation," he said.

Asaduzzaman, also additional commissioner of DMP, said "We have received intelligence information on how the escape of those two militants was planned. Arresting them is our main target at the moment."

In the afternoon, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun told a function in Rajshahi that the CTTC has already arrested one accused in connection with the militant snatching.

"We recovered the motorcycle used by the militants. We have recovered data and evidences," he added.

On Sunday, two activists of banned militant outfit JMB who were sentenced to death in publisher Faisal Arefin Dipan murder case were snatched from police custody by their associates at Dhaka Chief Judicial Magistrate Court.

The militants are Abu Siddiq and Moinul Hasan, activists of Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).

Later, Inspector Julhas Uddin Akand of the Prosecution Department of DMP filed a case as the plaintiff in the incident.

In the case, 20 people were named and 20-21 others were made unknown accused.
