Convicted person apprehended after ten years in the Biswajit murder case

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has apprehended a fugitive inmate who was given a life sentence in prison for the murder of Biswajit Das ten years ago.

The arrested was identified as Khandaker Mohammad Younus Ali, 36, of Magura.

Confirming the news, senior assistant director (media) of Rab-2Fazlul Haque said that he was arrested around 11:45am on Monday from Kellapur area in Narayanganj.

Biswajit, a tailor-shop worker, was chopped to death in broad-daylight near Bahadur Shah Park in Old Dhaka on December 9, 2012, during the blockade program called by BNP-led alliance.

On December 18, 2013, a Speedy Trial Tribunal awarded death penalty to eight people and 13 others to life- term imprisonment for killing Biswajit Das.

On August 6, 2017, the High Court upheld the death sentences of two-- Rafiqul Islam Shakil and Rajon Talukder, commuted death sentences of four to life imprisonment and acquitted four from the charges.

Mohammad Younus Ali had been on the run since his conviction in Biswajit Das murder case in 2012.
