Election Commission (EC) today (September 19, 2022) approved a project of Tk 8,711 crore to purchase EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) for 150 constituencies ahead of the 12th parliamentary elections.
Election Commissioner Md Alamgir confirmed it to The Daily Star.
Around two lakh EVMs would be procured under this project, according to the EC sources.
The EC took the decision to use EVMs in 150 parliamentary seats in the next national election though most of the political parties opposed it.
