Awami League (AL) General Secretary and Road Transports and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said that the BNP wants to obstruct the country’s development progress.

“BNP-Jamaat does not want to see Bangladesh’s advancement. They always hatch conspiracy (against the country,” he said while virtually addressing the triennial council of Narsingdi district AL at Mosleh Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium here from his residence in capital.

But no conspiracy of them (BNP-Jamaat) worked since the Awami League remained in the state power and the party has been  regarded as the people's party, the AL general secretary said, adding, Bangladesh is witnessing tremendous development as democracy has been established in the country under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“To continue this development journey, the continuity of the government is necessary,” he said.

AL Presidium Member and Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque inaugurated the council while AL Presidium Member Advocate Md Qamrul Islam, Advisory Council Member and former minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu, Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam, Liberation War Affairs Secretary Advocate Mrinal Kanti Das, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, AL Legal Affairs Secretary Advocate Najibullah Hiru, Office Secretary Barrister Biplab Barua, Forestry and Environmental Affairs Secretary Delwar Hossain and Women Affairs Secretary Maher Afroz Chumki addressed the programme as special guests.

Narsingdi district AL acting President GM Taleb Hossain presided over the council.

Referring to the rampant corruption of BNP-Jamaat regime, Quader said, "BNP has become an isolated party due to corruption. On the other hand, AL is a well-organized and strong political party under the leadership of Sheikh Hasina".

Noting that BNP has been disqualified for the elections, he said, "Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman both are convicted. According to law, none of them could take part in polls. Therefore, BNP is now plotting to come to power through conspiracies. But AL will deal with all sorts of conspiracies of the opponents".

About the party leaders and activists, the AL general secretary said, Bangladesh Awami League is a symbol of unity, so there is no alternative to unity.

All AL leaders and workers should work for the next elections as a united force, he said, if you want to remain with the party, you must follow party rules and regulations as the days are gone to get nominations even after doing irregularities.

AL or Sheikh Hasina didn't give lease out the leadership to anyone rather dedicated leaders are the destination of AL's trust, Quader said, adding that the activists of difficult times are the genuine friends of the party.

"Dedicated leaders should no longer be cornered as they have to be given space (in the party leadership)," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Abdur Razzaque said AL is such a political party through which the Bangalees achieved everything.

AL leaders and activists shed blood to protect the country's democracy, he said, adding that Bangladesh is now witnessing massive development under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

"Bangladesh now stands with its head high in the world. But conspiracies are still being hatched against the country. We should deal with the conspiracies," Razzaque said.

Organizing Secretary Mirza Azam said world leaders are now lauding the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as they are witnessing the development activities of Bangladesh.

Though the foreigners lauded the country's development under the AL government, BNP does not see the country's development, he added.

AL Education and Human Resource Affairs Secretary Shamsun Nahar Chapa, Commerce and Industries Affairs Secretary Md Siddiqur Rahman, Labor and Manpower Affairs Secretary Habibur Rahman Siraj, Central Working Committee members Dr Mostofa Jalal Mohiuddin, Advocate ABM Riazul Kabir Kawsar, Advocate Sanjida Khanam and Syed Abdul Awal Shamim, former Narsingdi district AL President Muhammad Nazrul Islam Birpratik, MP, Anwarul Ashraf Khan, MP, Zahirul Haque Bhuiyan Mohan, MP, Tamanna Nusrat Bubly, MP, and Narsingdi Zila Parishad Administrator Abdul Matin Bhuiyan also spoke.
