Indefinite transport strike in Sylhet from Tuesday morning

Transport workers in Sylhet have announced an indefinite strike from Tuesday morning to press home their five-point demands including an end to traffic police harassment.

Sylhet District Road Transport Workers Coordinating Council President and Sylhet District Bus Minibus Coach Microbus Workers Union President Haji Moinul Islam made the announcement on Sunday.

He said: “The decision was taken at the meeting of Sylhet District Road Transport Workers Coordinating Council consisting of six registered organizations of Sylhet on Sunday afternoon.”

The five-point demand of the transport workers include removal of Sylhet Metropolitan Police (SMP) commissioner and deputy commissioner (traffic), stop excessive fines including harassment by traffic police, withdrawal of Nazmul Alam Romen, the representative of the Labour Court in Sylhet, reopening of stone quarries as per High Court directives, speedy rehabilitation of dilapidated roads and stop sale of new CNG-powered auto-rickshaws and registration of the vehicles sold.
