Kashmiri MBBS student died falling from the rooftop in Shahjadpur

A 3rd year Kashmiri medical student died falling from the rooftop of a rest house at  Shahjadpur in Sirajganj on Wednesday (Sept 7, 2022).

Khushboo Manzoor, 21, an MBBS student of Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College and daughter of Manzoor Ahmad of Katoo village of Bijbehara at Anantnag in Jammu and Kashmir, fell from the rooftop of a rest house on Tuesday. She died on Wednesday morning while underwent treatment at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Local Enayetpur Police Station oficer-in-charge Md Anisur Rahman and Shahjadpur PPD Guest House's manager Nazrul Islam said 43 medical students including Khushboo Manzoor and 7 teachers of Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College went to Shahjadpur PPD Rest House on a two-day study tour.

After having lunch with others, Khushboo Manzoor went to the rooftop of the four-storeyed guest house. At one stage, she fell down on the ground from the rooftop and was seriously injured, Shahjadpur PPD Guest House's manager Nazrul Islam said.

Later at about 2:40pm, she was rushed to Khwaja Yunus Ali Medical College Hospital and admitted to the ICU there. She succumbed to her injuries at the ICU on Wednesday morning while underwent treatment there.

Enayetpur Police Station OC Md Anisur Rahman said they are investigating the reasons behind Khushboo Manzoor's accident.

Meanwhile, it is learnt that several Kashmiri politicians have appealed to the Indian External Affairs Ministry to help repatriate the body of the deceased student.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah tweeted, "The family is desperate to get the mortal remains of Khushboo so she can be buried by the family and loved ones at home rather than far away surrounded by strangers. Please help."
