Court declares Shahadat as Chattogram City mayor

In a case filed by BNP's mayoral candidate Dr. Shahadat Hossain, seeking the annulment of the election results due to allegations of rigging in the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) election, the court has declared him the mayor.

At the same time, an order has been issued to publish the gazette within the next 10 days.

The Election Tribunal and the court of Joint District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Khairul Amin delivered the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.

The court also asked the authorities concerned to publish a gazette notification in this regard within the next 10 days, said Arashad Hossain Asad, lawyer for Shahadat.

On February 24, 2021, BNP-backed mayoral candidate Dr Shahadat Hossain filed the case with the court, seeking an order to scrap the gazette notification declaring Rezaul Karim Chowdhury as Chattogram mayor.
