HC grants sacked mayor anticipatory bail in 7 cases

The High Court has granted Mohammad Jahangir Alam, the sacked mayor of Gazipur City Corporation, anticipatory bail in seven cases filed against him over making derogatory remarks on Bangabandhu and Liberation War.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Salim passed the order on Monday.

In September last year, videos of Alam making some derogatory comments on Bangabandhu and some martyred freedom fighters at a program went viral on social media.

Later, on November 19, the ruling Awami League expelled the Gazipur unit general secretary and city mayor Jahangir Alam over the comments.
