A portion of surplus funds raised through the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement’s relief collection drive at Dhaka University during recent floods in the southern region will be spent on people in the northern region, which is currently experiencing flash floods.
Abdul Kader, one of the coordinators of the student movement, shared this information in a message to the media on Sunday.
He said the remaining funds would later be used for the rehabilitation of those affected by the floods.
“We have finalized the initial discussions to stand by the flood-affected people of Rangpur division. The local administration has a sufficient supply of food items, including rice, lentils and oil. Student representatives and the local administration will work together to distribute these supplies. Student representative teams will be formed with students from Rangpur division residing in Dhaka and from the local level."
Kader said the relief operations would initially start with the full support of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. “If necessary, a portion of the previously raised Anti-Discrimination Student Movement rehabilitation fund will be used to continue the relief efforts, with the rest being allocated later for rehabilitation in the eastern region.”
