Fans of the beloved teen drama "One Tree Hill" have reason to celebrate, as a sequel series is currently in development at Netflix, according to sources close to the production.

The highly anticipated follow-up is set to reunite original cast members Sophia Bush, Hilarie Burton, and Daneel Ackles, who are also on board as executive producers, reports Variety.

Daneel Ackles will executive produce under her Chaos Machine banner alongside her husband, Jensen Ackles. Becky Hartman-Edwards, known for her work on shows like "Firefly Lane" and "Parenthood," has been tapped to write and executive produce the series.

Warner Bros. Television, the studio behind the original show, is returning to produce the sequel.

Sources confirm that Bush and Burton are set to reprise their roles, with Ackles also in talks to return.

However, there is no official word yet on whether other original cast members, such as Chad Michael Murray, James Lafferty, Bethany Joy Lenz, Paul Johansson, or Lee Norris, will be involved in the project.

The original "One Tree Hill" became a cultural phenomenon during its run from 2003 to 2012, spanning nine seasons on The WB and later The CW. The show followed the lives of a group of friends in the fictional town of Tree Hill, North Carolina, navigating the ups and downs of adolescence, love, and family.

With the involvement of key original cast members and a seasoned writer at the helm, the sequel series promises to deliver the same emotional depth and nostalgia that made "One Tree Hill" a fan favourite.

No release date has been announced yet, and additional casting details remain under wraps.
