"The Dirty Picture" soon returns based on life of Silk Smitha

"The Dirty Picture" will soon be returning with a sequel according to the film's producers, Kanika Dhillon and Ekta Kapoor. "The Dirty Picture 2" is anticipated to have an entirely different plot and cast from the first film, which was based on the life of Silk Smitha.

The producers are reportedly considering Kriti Sanon and Taapsee Pannu for the lead role in the sequel, while the original starred Vidya Balan as the lead.

Vidya Balan began a wave of female-centric films in Bollywood, a key part of which was her role in "The Dirty Picture", which was released in 2011. The film was not only critically acclaimed, but it also performed well in the box office. Vidya also landed a National Award for her performance in "The Dirty Picture".

The original film was directed by Milan Luthria, and was based on the life of actress Silk Smitha. The film also starred Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah, and Tusshar Kapoor in prominent roles.
