Ten people, including students of Dhaka University, were injured after a tyre of a DU bus exploded in Jatrabari area of Dhaka this morning.
The "Maitri" bus tilted over the divider on the road as a result around 9:20 am near Kajla, reports.
Several students inside the bus fell and were hurt. Many of them received primary treatment.
However, Younus Pradhan, the driver of the bus was seriously injured. The students rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The "Maitri" bus runs on the route from Narayanganj's IET to DU campus through Demra Staff Quarter.
One of the injured students, Amir Hosen of DU's tourism and hospitality management department, claimed that the tyre of the bus was expired and the concerned authorities were informed about it several times.
"If the bus would have been on a flyover, we could have been in a serious accident," Amir said.
DU transport manager Kamrul Hasan on the other hand, claimed that a new tyre was given to the driver of the bus around one week ago, to replace the old one.
"We have enough good tyres in stock. We give replacements as soon as someone wants," he said.
