Home affairs advisor warns Awami League against trying to create disorder

Brigadier General (Retd) M Sakhawat Hossain, the home affairs advisor for the interim government, has issued a stern warning to the recently ousted Awami League, advising the party against attempting a counter-revolution and trying to create disorder.

He was speaking to reporters on Monday while visiting injured Ansar members at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka, where they are being treated after sustaining injuries during the recent student movement.

"Do not try to create disorder. The consequences will not be favourable," he cautioned, noting that there was no issue if the Awami League wanted to reorganize as a party.

The advisor acknowledged the significant contributions of the Awami League to the country and said it was free to reorganize but warned if it dreamt of a counter-revolution, it would lead to bloodshed on a massive scale.

"We might flee, but this generation or the student population will not run away."

Sakhawat mentioned that international assistance would be sought to investigate the fatalities during the movement, condemning the loss of lives and injuries that had occurred.

Additionally, he said any looted weapons must be returned to the police by Monday. He warned that after August 19, strict measures would be taken against anyone found in possession of such weapons.
