A group of directors from the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) has issued an ultimatum to NBR Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem, demanding his resignation due to his support for the economic anomalies associated with the ousted Awami League. The officials and employees of all levels of the organisation also raised the demand for the resignation of the “autocratic” chairman and an administration-free NBR to resolve the discrimination in the current context of the country.
“We went to the NBR on Wednesday to meet its Chairman Abu Hena Md Rahmatul Muneem. However, he didn’t attend the office. The business leaders then announced a 24-hour ultimatum for the resignation of the corrupt official,” FBCCI Director Nizamuddin Rajesh told the Daily Sun.
The FBCCI directors also claimed that the Sammilito Bebsayi Parishad could not take the oath despite winning the election of the apex trade body of the country. FBCCI directors Mohammad Nizam Uddin, Rakibul Alam, Syed Md Bakhtiar, Abul Hashem, and business leader Abu Sadeque were also present on the occasion. Rakibul Alam, chairman of SS Rahman Group, said that the NBR needs an important person with integrity to bring transparency to the economy of Bangladesh.
“We demand the resignation of the corrupt NBR Chairman Muneem,” he said. Muneem has allegedly amassed illegal wealth through “irregularities in recruitment, transfer, and promotion” for years, according to the FBCCI directors.
