Bangladesh calls on US organizations to invest in water transport sector

Bangladesh called on US organizations to invest in the country’s water transport sector as well as other sectors. 

The call was made during a roundtable organized by the United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) in New Orleans, Louisiana on Tuesday. 

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury led a delegation from Bangladesh. Meanwhile, representatives of the US Department of Commerce, USTDA employees and representatives from 19 US companies also participated in the roundtable. 

During the meeting, presentations were given on behalf of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) regarding the shipping ministry, the inland water transport management system of Bangladesh and port activities. 

Gemcon Group Director Kazi Inam Ahmed and Western Engineering Managing Director Bashir Ahmed gave separate presentations during the roundtable. 


The Bangladeshi delegation called upon the US companies to invest in the water transport and other sectors. 

The representatives of the US Department of Commerce and representatives of the US companies expressed interest in investing in Bangladesh. 

BIWTA Chairman Commodore Golam Sadeq, several ministry officials and representatives of private business organizations were part of the Bangladeshi delegation led by the shipping ministry.
