A 42-year-old woman named Bindu and her 24-year-old son Vivek have recently cleared the Public Service Commission (PSC) exams together in Kerala’s Malappuram, the news agency ANI reported on Wednesday.

Bindu started reading books to encourage Vivek when he was in tenth grade. However, it also prompted her to get ready for the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC) exams.

Now both of them are set to enter government service together nine years down the line.

While Bindu cleared the Lower Divisional Clerk (LDC) exams with a rank of 38, her son passed the Last Grade Servants (LGS) exams with a rank of 92.

Bindu, an anganwadi teacher for the last 10 years, said her teachers at the coaching centre, her friends and her son had been a source of encouragement and support during the journey.

“We went to coaching classes together. My mother brought me to this and my father arranged all the facilities for us. We got a lot of motivation from our teachers,” Vivek said.

“We both studied together but never thought that we would qualify together. We are both very happy,” he added.

In Kerala the age limit is 40 for Stream 2 positions, but there are few exceptions for specific categories.

The relaxation is for three years for the Other Backward Classes group and five years for scheduled tribes, scheduled castes and widows.
