Writ filed with HC to increase the price of fuel

A writ has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of the government’s decision to increase the price of fuel.

Supreme Court lawyer Yunus Ali Akand filed the petition on Monday.

The writ petition seeks suspension, annulment and withdrawal of the gazette issued by the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources increasing the price of fuel oil.

The secretary and deputy secretary of the Department of Energy and Mineral Resources and the chairman of Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) have been made respondents in the writ.

On Friday, the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources issued a notification to increase the price of fuel oil in the country.

According to the notice, the retail prices of diesel and kerosene at the consumer level will be Tk114 per litre, octane Tk135 per litre, and petrol Tk130 per litre.
