Fire guts 12 food warehouses in Tongi

A fire that broke out in Tongi bazar area of Gazipur on Wednesday night gutted at least twelve food warehouses. 

Firefighters from Tongi and Uttara stations managed to bring the fire under control around 12:40am on Thursday, according to Senior Station Officer Abu Muhammad Sajedul Kabir Joarder of Tongi Fire Service and Civil Defence.

Local people said the fire broke out at a warehouse beside Sonabhan Market in Tongi at about 11:30pm. It later spread soon. There were onions, potatoes, rice and some other food.

Md Farruq, owner of Ruposhi Bangla Rice, said there were about 5,000 sacks of rice in the warehouses, all of which were gutted in the fire.
