7 out of 10 working people of Singapore prefer 4-day workweek

Seven out of 10 working people of Singapore would prefer a four-day workweek, according to a recent survey.

They think it will help them attain a better work-life balance, reports HRM Asia quoting Milieu Insight survey.

Some businesses have already started the practice. These companies are giving their employees more rest days. The firms include real estate listings company PropertyGuru, as well as smaller ones like the barbershop chain Sultans of Shave and dental clinic DP Dental.

In the UK, 70 companies are testing a four-day workweek for six months as a pilot project. The project allows employees to work four days per week without pay reduction.

The Singapore National Employers Federation is watching the outcomes of the UK trial but is not ready to endorse it, said SNEF executive director Sim Gim Guan, according to The Straits Times.

"There is no one-size-fits-all type of work arrangement that can apply to all workplaces," said Sim.
