A court in Moulvibazar has released a convicted man on the condition of praying and staying away from drugs.

Moulvibazar Chief Judicial Magistrate Muhammad Ali Ahasan gave the orders to release Nur Mia, a resident of Srimangal’s Sirajnagar area, on Tuesday.

Nur Mia had received a three years sentence after being convicted for his involvement in a clash on August 6, 2016 in Sreemangal’s Sirajnagar.

However, seeing as he is the only earning member in his family of four, the judge released him on probation under the Probation of Offenders Ordinance 1960.

He was released under the following conditions: he would have to pray regularly, plant a 100 trees, refrain from drugs and any new crimes, maintain good behavior and turn up to court as per orders.

If any of the conditions are broken during the probation period, he will have to complete the entirety of his three-year jail term. The court has also ordered the district probation officer to monitor him.

Moulvibazar District Lawyers Association chief and Public Prosecutor ASM Azadur Rahman sees the verdict as a positive one. “This will aid in reducing crimes.”
