Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to visit India in the last week of June, shortly after the conclusion of the 18th Lok Sabha elections in the neighbouring country.

India has already sent a letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requesting her to visit the country to talk over many bilateral issues including Teesta water sharing, our New Delhi correspondent reports quoting a highly placed source within the Indian government.

The Indian External Affairs Ministry has also been actively engaged in taking necessary preparations ahead of the potential visit by Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, added the source.

According to the schedule, the results of the Lok Sabha election will be declared on the 4th of June after a long two-month election.  And on completion of the election, PM Hasina has given her primary consent in principle to visit India, said sources within the diplomatic corps.

If it happens in the last week of June, it will mark Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s first bilateral visit to India after forming a government following the 12th parliamentary election.

Meanwhile, Dhaka has also conveyed through the interlocutor that PM Hasina wants a fruitful visit to reach a mutual understanding on several issues, including the much-awaited Teesta water-sharing agreement.
