A US National Nuclear Security Administration official said Wednesday that the agency is examining “very very closely” whether it will adjust the US nuclear arsenal in response to the nuclear challenges posed by Russia and China.
“The US Strategic Posture Commission said we may need more and/or different types of weapons to respond to the evolving security challenge, especially that two-peer challenge.
And what I would say at this point is the administration has not made a decision on whether we need more, but we are examining it very, very closely,” Frank Rose, principal deputy administrator of the National Nuclear Security Administration, said at a Brookings event.
