Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina has asked the authorities concerned to construct eight storages in eight divisions in the country for the preservation of agricultural products.
In the cabinet meeting at the PM’s office on Wednesday, the PM said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu had a dream about cooperatives. In the light of that dream, she gave instructions to the Ministry of Agriculture and the Rural Development and Co-operative Division to build agricultural cooperatives, said Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain during a briefing at the secretariat.
She has also asked for the construction of eight agricultural produce storages across eight divisions. This initiative aims to ensure the availability of various agricultural products during the off-season and prevent price surges, he added.
The storage facilities will be equipped with multiple chambers. The PM has given clear instructions regarding the precise temperature maintenance required for each product. This meticulous approach aims to ensure the prolonged availability of these products in the market, the cabinet secretary said further.
Mahbub also stated that the PM has decided against hosting Iftar parties and instead urged those interested or capable to support the common people with the funds allocated for such events. Stating that the PM’s directives have been accepted as a decision of the cabinet, the cabinet secretary said, “Accordingly, we will follow up with the ministries concerned.”
Mahbub said that the cabinet has been informed about who is doing what in preparation for Ramadan from the relevant ministries.
“The Ministry of Commerce has informed that several big companies will sell various daily necessary products in Dhaka city and other places outside Dhaka at the rate of mill gate. Sale points will increase further,” he added.
