Anwar Sadat appointed as Katakhali Mayor

Anwar Sadat has been appointed as mayor of Katakhali municipality in Rajshahi after Abbas Ali was suspended following his arrest in digital security cases over remarks on Bangabandhu. 

The local government ministry announced the appointment in notification on Sunday.

On Wednesday, Abbas was suspended, days after his arrest in a digital security case on his derogatory remarks over a mural of Bangabandhu.

Abbas, who was in his second term as mayor, came under fire after an audio clip of his remarks on Bangabandhu went viral on social media.

 At least three Digital Security Act cases were filed against him with Rajpara, Boalia, and Chandrima police in Rajshahi.
