Libel suit against Khokon: One dismissed, another withdrawn

One of the two cases filed against former mayor Sayeed Khokon for defaming Dhaka South City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh has been dismissed and another has been withdrawn.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Baki Billah on Tuesday dismissed the case filed by Kazi Anisur Rahman as there was no element to accept the case.

In another case, when the plaintiff's lawyer Sarwar Alam applied for withdrawal the case, the court granted it.

On January 11, two cases were filed against Saeed Khokon in the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury.

Former mayor Sayeed Khokon made various allegations against the current mayor Sheikh Taposh in a human chain in the capital on January 9. In this regard, Mayor Taposh commented that Saeed Khokon's statement was his personal opinion. Tapas also said that a defamation suit would be filed against Sayeed Khokon.

However, after the case was filed against Sayeed Khokon, Tapas told reporters that two overzealous lawyers had filed the case. He has no connection in the case. The mayor also urged the two plaintiffs to withdraw the case immediately.
