Flat owner Ibrahim gets anticipatory bail : Gulshan Flat Case

The High Court today granted a six-week anticipatory bail -- on condition -- to Ibrahim Ahmed Ripon, an accused in the case filed over the rape and murder of a college student in a flat at Dhaka's Gulshan in April this year.

The HC, in the order, said that Ibrahim, the flat's landlord, cannot leave the country and he must surrender his passport to the magistrate court concerned.

Ibrahim has also been ordered to surrender before the magistrate court on expiry of his bail period

The HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice KM Zahid Sarwar Kajol passed the order after hearing a petition filed by Ibrahim seeking anticipatory bail in the case.

Ibrahim appeared before the HC bench during hearing on the petition.

Assistant Attorney General (AAG) Mizanur Rahman said the HC granted anticipatory bail to Ibrahim on the ground that there is no specific allegation of rape and murder against him.

The AAG also said he is yet to receive any instruction from the government to move any appeal before the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, challenging the HC's anticipatory bail.

Lawyer Nahid Sultana Juthi appeared for Ibrahim during the hearing. The Daily Star
